Colonial Conference Swim meet

Sterling Swimming Team competed in the Colonial Conference Holiday Meet last night at Rowan University.  The meet consisted of all the colonial conference schools.  The swimming knights had a great night of races. Here are some results:

200 Medley Relay took 2nd place-the relay consisted of Dan DeRemigi, Tyler Sheehan, Jack Chicalo and Matt Dieterle.

The 400 Freestyle Relay took 2nd place as well, the relay consisted of Dan DeRemigi, Tyler Sheehan, Mike Chicalo, and Matt Dieterle.

In Individual Races:

Swimming v. Camden Catholic

Sterling Swimming won their first meet of the season last night 99-71 over Camden Catholic. First place finishes:
  Mike Chicalo-100 freestyle
  Dan DeRemigi-500 freestyle
  Tyler Sheehan-100 breaststroke
 200 Medley Relay consisting of Tylee Sheehan, Jared Spitz, Jack Chicalo, and Dan Cronin and the 400 yard freestyle relay consisting of Dan DeRemigi, Mike Chicalo, Tyler Sheehan, and Matt Dieterle.


The Knights will swim next in the colonial conference Holiday Meet at Rowan University on Thursday @ 6:00 pm

Sterling Swimming team lost to Cherokee on Saturday.First place finishes by Dan DeRemigi in the 500 free and Tyler Sheehan had a first place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Next meet for the swimming knights is Monday in a division match up vs. Camden Catholic at Camden County Vo-Tech at 6:15 pm.

Sterling Swimming team lost to to Shawnee yesterday 99-71. First place finishes by Matt Dieterle in the 50 free and 100 free. The 400 freestyle relay placed 1st.  The Relay consisted of Dan DeRemigi, Mile Chicalo, Tyler Sheehan and Matt Dieterle.

Sterling swimming kicks off their season v. Lenape



The Sterling Swim Team was defeated by Leanpe last night to open up their season. 1st place finishes by Matt Dieterle in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. There next meet will be Monday vs Shawnee At 4 pm at Burlington County College.

Sterling wins at home

The Knights took their opening game in Somerdale Friday night by defeating the Hawks of Haddon Township. The Knights put up 40 points whiling the Hawks to 6.

Girls track v. HT contributed by Julie Stratton

On Thursday the girls beat Haddon Township 96-44 making their record 5-1. Many outstanding performances took place and the team did a great job. In long jump Sanchez took 2nd and Stratton took 3rd. In triple jump Wyatt, Sanchez, and Bass swept with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Teeny Thomas and Danielle Marco took 1st and 2nd in polevault. Alisha Singleton and Candace Daywalt took 1st and 2nd in the 400 intermediate hurdles. Emily Daiutulo, Julie Stratton, and Taylor Straub swept the 1600. Ateera Wyatt and Ebony Felder got 1st and 2nd in the 400. Candace Daywalt,Amy Lombard, and Julie Stratton swept the 800. Diautulo and Straub took 1st and 3rd in the 3200. Tyra Satchell, Arianna Melton, and Chanel Jenkins swept shot put. Jenkins and Jordan Wallace took 1st and 3rd in discus. Rachel Adamski and Ateera Wyatt took 1st and 2nd in javelin.

April 18 varsity update

Softball 1-0 win over W. Deptford. Volleyball 2-0 vs Penn Tech

Congrats to boys and girls track for wins today over Haddon Twp! Boys record is a perfect 6-0. The Girls are 5-1.

Casey leads Silver Knights to 7-0 victory thanks to nine strikeouts.

Thursday was a great day for Donovan Casey, as Casey tossed a shutout to carry the Silver Knights to a 7-0 victory over West Deptford. Casey struck out nine and gave up just 3 hits.

The biggest inning for Sterling was the first as the Silver Knights scored four runs.

The Silver Knights were sparked by Casey and J.T. Harding, who teamed up for four hits and three RBIs. Harding hit a 2-run homerun in the 3rd inning.

Sterling is now 7-1 and next play Monday vs Collingswood

Setback v. Woodbury

Woodbury's seventh inning charge helps upend Silver Knights, 5-4

Donovan Casey had a hot bat for Silver Knights. Casey went 2-3. He singled in the first and fifth innings.

T Wilson recorded the win for Woodbury.

The bottom of the first saw Woodbury take an early lead, 3-0. 

Woodbury won the game with a run in the seventh inning when the herd scored on a walk.

Girls' Track comes close v. Haddonfield - contributed by Julie Stratton

The Sterling girls' track team took a tough loss to Haddonfield yesterday with a final score of 80-60. Although we may not have won, we still had some great performances. Ateera Wyatt took first in the triple jump with her PR of 35'1 1/2". Anyssa Sanchez took second in triple jump with a jump of 31'10.25". Sanchez also took third in the long jump with a jump of 14'6". Justine Thomas took first in polevault and Danielle Marco took second. Arianna Melton and Imani Bass tied for first in the high jump at a height of 4'4". In shot put Tyra Sathell took first place with her PR of 32'8 3/4", Arianna Melton took 2nd, and Chanel Jenkins took 3rd. Chanel Jenkins, Tyra Satchell, and Jordan Wallace swept the discus with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Lastly, in Javelin, Rachel Adamski took first and Ateera Wyatt took 2nd. 

Girls' Track Relays - contributed by Julie Stratton

On Saturday the girls had a great meet at the West Deptford Relays. In every event they participated in they finished either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. They finished 3rd overall for Group II. Here are some of the results; Ateera Wyatt, Anyssa Sanchez, and Arianna Melton finished 1st in the triple jump relay with a meet record of 98'1.5", Rachel Adamski, Ateera Wyatt, and Brianna Kearse took 1st in the Javelin relay with a total throw of 285'7". The final first place finishers of the day were Ebony Felder, Candace Daywalt, Ateera Wyatt, and Julie Stratton in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:11.3, the second best time in school history. The second place finishers include the shot put relay of Tyra Satchell, Chanel Jenkins, and Arianna Melton, the discus relay of Brianna Kearse, Tyra Satchell, and Chanel Jenkins, and the 4x800 meter relay of Julie Stratton, Candace Daywalt, Amy Lombard, and Taylor Straub. The only event we finished 3rd in was the long jump relay which included Anyssa Sanchez, Julie Stratton, and Ebony Felder.

Andrew Mottola competed in the NJSIAA State Meet of Champions this weekend. Andrew placed 7th overall in the 50 freestyle and 15th in the 100 freestyle overall. Congrats Andrew on a great weekend.

Winter track

The boys and girls winter track team competed at the group 2 state championships on Saturday and had the best showing in many years. The girls 4x4 team of Ebony Felder, Ateera Wyatt, Candace Daywalt and Rachel Adamski set an indoor school record of 4:18 and placed 15th overall.
Naheem Parker improved his previous best time by 2 seconds in the 800 meters with a 2:02 and placed 7th overall.

Congratulations to Devin Thompson and Victor Obhughi who bothe placed fifth in the hurdles and high jump respectively which qualified them to compete in the New Jersey Meet of Champions.
Devin ran a personal best time of 8.03 in the 55 hurdles and Victor jumped 6 feet in the high jump.

Finally congratulations to Jimmy Daniels for winning the group 2 state championship in the
3200 meters. Jimmy's time of 9:14.31 made him the #1 seed going into the meet of champions.
His time also broke the group 2 state championship record as well as ranking him # 10 in the nation
And placing him #8 all time in south jersey.

Lady Knights fall in SJIBT semifinals

The Lady Knights rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to cut it to 7 with three minutes left, but Sterling couldn't get any closer in a 52-43 loss to Willingboro in a SJIBT semifinal Friday night at Eastern High School that snapped Sterling's 14-game winning streak.

Sterling (20-4) committed 12 of their 27 turnovers in the second quarter, when the Chimeras outscored the Lady Knights 15-4 to lead 23-10 at the intermission.  After taking a 6-2 lead four minutes into the game, Sterling allowed Willingboro to go on a 13-0 run to seize control of the game.

Anyssa Sanchez, who scored 13 points, had a chance to cut the deficit to four in the third quarter but she missed a layup try when it was 27-21.

Tyra Satchell scored 16 points to lead Sterling, who will play the loser of the Rancocas Valley-Gloucester Catholic semifinal in Sunday's consolation game at 2:30 pm while the winner will meet Willingboro in the 4:30 final.

Season comes to a close.

Sterling Swimming Team closed out the season by becoming Tri-Champions in the Ocean Division of the South Jersey Swim League. This is the knights 3rd straight title in the league. Congrats to all of the swimmers on a great season.

Lady Knights win 13th in row, clinch 4th straight title

The Lady Knights routed Gateway 59-17 for their 13th straight win and they clinched their fourth straight Colonial Conference championship Tuesday behind Tyra Satchell's 30 points. She is 21 points shy of 1,000 & can hit the milestone Thursday at home vs. Lindenwold. Sterling (19-3) and ranked No. 4 in South Jersey, forced the Gators to commit 40 turnovers in the game.

Track team shines SJ sectionals



The Boys and Girls Winter Track team competed at the South Jersey Group 2 Championships on Thursday night.  The team competed at a very high level and achieved many personal bests.  Congratulations to the following athletes who placed in the top 6 and qualified for the New Jersey Group 2 Championships.

Almier McCoy placed in 4th in the pole vault.
Naheem Parker placed 5th in the 800 meters
The girls 4x4 of Ebony Felder, Rachel Adamski, Candace Daywalt, and Ateera Wyatt placed 6th.
Victor Obhugi placed 6th in the 55 Hurdles
Devin Thompson placed 2nd in the 55 hurdles.

A special congratulations to Victor Obhugi who won the South Jersey Group 2 High jump Championship and Jimmy Daniels who won the South Jersey Group 2 3200 championship.  Jimmy’s time of 9:22 broke the New Jersey Group 2 Sectional record by over 7 seconds.

Lady Knights topple West Deptford

Anyssa Sanchez scored 19 points and Tyra Satchell added 15 as Sterling thumped West Deptford 66-30 Thursday night in a Colonial Conference girls basketball game. The win was the 11th in a row and clinched at least a tie for the conference title for the fourth straight season.

Upcoming is a SJIT quarterfinal game Saturday at 7 pm at Eastern against Ocean City, a 41-26 winner over Bordentown on Thursday night. The Lady Knights and Rancocas Valley are the only two SJ teams to reach the SJIT quarterfinals every year since the tournament began six years ago.

Also on Thursday, the unofficial pairings for the upcoming state tournament have the 3rd-seeded Lady Knights hosting 13th-seeded Barnegat in a first-round game.

Baby Knights rout West Deptford

Sterling Frosh romp West Deptford 51-14 behind 12 points and 10 rebounds by Jordan Wallace. The Baby Knights (6-1 overall, 5-0 conference) finish Colonial season undefeated.

Swimming Knights finish historic season


The Sterling Swimming Team fell to Cherry Hill East 118-52 in the sectional quarterfinal. The knights did pick up some individual wins and swam well. Here are the results:

200 free relay consisiting of Tommy Sheehan, Danny Sheehan, Matt Dieterle, and Andrew Mottola-1st place

The knights end the season 7-7 overall and became the first team in school history to make the playoffs and win in the 1st round. Congratulations on a great season to all the Swimming knights.

Lady Knights avenge loss

If the Lady Knights were anxious to avenge an earlier season loss to Collingswood tonight, waiting an extra 40 minutes couldn't have helped.  That's because the JV team forced double overtime before taking out the Panthers. Then, 33 seconds in to the game it was stopped to honor 1000 point scorer Ellie O'Neill.

First ever playoff win


Sterling Swimming Team deafted Eastern High School 108-62 in the state team playoffs. This win marks the first playoff win in the school history for the swimming knights.. Here are the results:

Swimming Knights make state playoffs

The Sterling Swimming Team qualified for the State Public South A Playoffs for the first time in school history. They will be swimming Eastern High School tonight @ Camden County Vo-Tech @ 6 pm. The winner will swim #1 seed Cherry Hill East in a State Quarterfinal Match up later this week.

Lady Lnights rout Pitman in SJIT opener

Senior Anyssa Sanchez scored a career-high 30 points to go with 15 rebounds as the Sterling girls basketball team defeated Pitman 75-40 in the first round of the South Jersey Invitational Tounament Friday night.

The Lady Knights advanced to play at Williamstown at 6 pm Monday in the second round.

Sanchez, who scored all of her points on layups and putbacks with 12 offensive rebounds, scored 18 points as Sterling led 35-25 at halftime. The Lady Knights put the game away with a 24-4 third-quarter surge. Sanchez scored eight in the quarter.

Jenna Scully had a season-high 10 points and five rebounds for the winners.

Karlie Crispin had 15 points with five 3-pointers for Pitman, which closed the first-half with a 12-3 run but could get no closer. Crispin managed just three points after halftime.

The Sterling Swimming team defeated Bishop Eustace last night 111-59. The knights took first place is every event and had some more record performances. Here are the results:

New School Record:
Andrew Mottola set a new school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.45. With this record, he holds each individual record and apart of all 3 relay record teams for Sterling High School.

The knights improve to 6-6 on the season and will now be waiting for the state playoff seedlings which will be released on Monday.

First ever victory v. CH West

The Sterling Swimming Team had an amazing meet last night defeating Cherry Hill West 94-76 for the first time in school history on senior night. The knights put up 14 personal bests and two new school records. Here are the results:

Two New School Records:

Andrew Mottola Breaking the school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.91.
He also broke his own 50 freestyle record with a new time of 21.22. Through January 24th state performance list, his time now ranks him #1 in the state in this event.

The Knight overall record is now 5-6. They swim their last regular season dual meet on Thursday Night vs. Bishop Eustace @ 7:30 pm @ Camden County Vo-Tech.

Saturday's SJ girls basketball results




   Anyssa Sanchez hit two key three-point plays to help lift the Sterling High School girls' basketball team to a 46-38 victory against Kingsway in a nonleague game Saturday.
   Sanchez finished her first three-point play to end the second quarter and give the Silver Knights a 26-24 lead going  into the half. The Dragons took the lead again in the third quarter, but it was Sanchez who hit another three-point play to give the Silver Knights the lead for good.
   Sanchez scored 13 of her 20 points in the second half, collected 11 rebounds and three steals. Tyra Satchell added 12 points, six assists, three steals and two blocks. Zoe Hahn led the Dragons with 12 points.

Haddon Heights 47, Clayton 22: Nadja Riggs led the Garnets with 18 points and Taylor Nichols added 13 in the win. The Garnets broke open the game with a 22-point third quarter. Taylor Reed led Clayton with eight points.

Lady Knights beat Kingsway

Seniors Anyssa Sanchez and Tyra Satchell lead Sterling to 46-38 win over Kingsway Saturday. Sanchez had another double-double and the Lady Knights outscored the Dragons 10-5 in the fourth quarter and forced Kingsway to commit seven of their 22 turnovers in the final period.

Sterling won despite shooting 28% from the field and 58% from the foul line.

Baby Knights defeat Kingsway

Sterling freshman girls basketball team tops Kingsway 40-23. Eleana Kriebel had 11 points and 6 assists to lead the Baby Knights, who improved to 5-1.

Burlington County
Burlington City 55, Maple Shade 53:    The Blue Devils trailed the Wildcats 40-38 heading into the final quarter. Burlington City then outscored Maple Shade 17-13 in the fourth quarter to win. Courtney Davis led all scorers with 27 points for the Blue Devils while teammate Jada Atchinson added 22. For the Wildcats, Brittany Granahan scored 17 and Jill Dombrowski added 13.

More records fall

The Sterling Swimming Team Fell to Cherry Hill East 114-56. However, the Knights had some outstanding time drops and record performances. Here are some of the results:
Tommy Sheehan-50 Freestyle-1st place
Andrew Mottola-100 Breaststroke-1st place

Andrew Mottola set two new school records in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52. 79 and 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.84.

The Knights will now compete in the South Jersey Coaches Invitational this Saturday @ 10 am @ GCIT.

Girls Rule @ Rowan

On Sunday, the Sterling Girls Swimming team competed in the Girls Rule Meet at Rowan University. 9 teams from Camden, Salem, and Gloucester County area were invited to the meet. Here are some of the first place results:

Saturday's South Jersey Varsity Girls Basketball Results


   Gloucester Catholic 42, Clearview 26: Becky Pund scored seven of her 13 points in the final quarter to help lift the Rams past Clearview in the Crusaders Coaches versus Cancer Shootout at Delsea.
   Emily Lyons led the Rams, ranked No.  2 in the Courier-Post Top 10, with 16 points, including four 3-pointers. The victory improved the undefeated Rams' record to 12-0.

Sterling Frosh beat Bishop Eustace in girls hoops

The Baby Knights (4-1) rally from 12-point halftime deficit and hold the Crusaders to just four points in the 2nd half in a 31-26 victory. My Knute Rockne speech: Play basketball, ladies. Nobody is rescuing you today.

Swimming Knights defeat Eastern in final relay

The Sterling Swimming Team had an amazing meet on Friday vs. Eastern winning 87-83. It was a great meet for all who came out. The meet came down to the last relay with the knights pulling out 1st and 3rd to win the meet. Here are the results:
